Open SMS Messages disappear from my phone and Join if I click the chrome notification

Same here. I see them in my join notifications on my tablet and computer but not on my phone. I'm using a Pixel 2XL and android messages on Android 8.1. I'm sure it's not a join problem but if someone does find a solution please post it here.

 

I did read to disable battery saving/doze on android messages as a possible solution so I'm going to try that. Also read others say it doesn't happen with other SMS apps such as Textra

 

Happened again right now. I'll try to describe it to see if you can reproduce it.
I had sent a message using chrome extension.
Later today I received a response to it. This response only was delivered after I turned on my phone.
I only received the notification on my tablet, my smartphone never notified me that I had a new message (neither my Xiaomi Mi Band 2).
Right now I will try to revoke all message privileges from all apps except Join.
I'm using Android Messages.
