So, I have that problem. (Everything seems to work. But when I send a SMS from Chrome app, despite being correctly "sent", it disapears as soon as I click "refresh". It also never syncs as a "Sent" message on my phone's SMS app conversation thread)

I triied 2 different "SMS sync'ing application"(Join and Mighty Text). I get the same problem.
I also triied my default SMS app (Huawei's) and Google's. Same problem.
Fooled around a lot with notifications. Couldn't manage either.

The problem is persistent in my case. 100% chances to happen.

I would suggest trying (using these forums, maybe?) to build a small database of which phones get this problem. Might help at some point.

In my case : Huawei P10 Lite.

(also, if someone, somewhere, figures a workaround.........?)

I'm also having this same issue: same phone manufacturer but different model - Huawei Honor 7x.

Though not sure if I can completely agree with this possible reason: "Only the default SMS can do that. So this issue must come from the default SMS app itself."

As I've tried a number of different texting/SMS apps on this phone, setting each one as the default with zero success. My guess it's due to Huawei and/or its custom UI: EMUI? I've used my default texting app Textra successfully with Join on three other phones with no problems.

I happily paid for the full Join app and hope to continue being a loyal customer. But I will try Pushbullet to see if this is also issue (most likely). I'll report back to help others.

yup, I meant the new version of chrome....but I'm still having the same problem. The add-on doesn't show messages that I've sent directly from my phone, only the ones I've sent via the browser.
