    Hello,

This might be an obscure configuration, but I am trying to install Chrome plugin on
    1. Vivaldi browser (which is based on Chrome engine and can install plugins from Chrome store and is generally compatible with all plugins I've tried so far).
    2. Standalone type of installation (puts all files and configurations in a specific folder, almost portable install).

What I am observing is the following:
    1. The plugin installs and goes to the authentication page. After I enter authentication, something different happens compared to the flow on Chrome installation.
    2. After that, the plugin is opening but does not show machine name and cannot send/receive messages.

Here are the other configurations where plugin worked for me:
    1. Chrome browser (obviously).
    2. Vivaldi browser, regular type of installation.
    3. Portable Chrome installation (from portableapps.com), so I know that plugin generally works on portable installations.

The only broken combination is Vivaldi browser, standalone installation.

Is there any way to capture some diagnostics to understand where exactly things go wrong?

    Thanks,
    Max

    Hmm, that part seems ok.
    Can you please try this:
    - go into Chrome
    - settings
    - extensions
    - enable developer mode
    - click on join.html
    - go to the console tab
    - go to the chrome settings page
    - see if anything appears there in the console tab

I presume you mean Vivaldi and not Chrome (sinse I have problem with Vivialdi).
Just as I go to the console tab, even before I do anything I see following 2 errors:

googleDriveManager.js:331 Uncaught No deviceId to get file name for
join.js:1694 Error getting key: Server error occurred.
    handleRegIdRegistration @ join.js:1694

After that if I open Join plugin, I see extra messages:
    Continuous: false
    devices.js:184 Unloading popup devices...
    devices.js:274 Unloading devices...
    notifications.js:272 Unloading notifications...
    js/sms.js:1094 Unloading sms...

If I go in Join settings -> Diagnostics -> Test, I see following messages in main Join window:

Getting account details... Success: Signed in with <redacted>@gmail.com: <redacted>
    Testing registration on Join's server...

Then it just hangs there, no new messages in console.

I can open it. I see my other registered browsers and android device. When I click on either one, I can see "Push history", "Note to self" and other clickable buttons. Does Join plugin tries to write/persist some data in an unusual place/storage location?

Nope. It uses local storage and standard browser database access... Did you maybe disable one of these?

No, I've tested it on a fresh (standalone) install of the browser. Is there a way to test if it disabled? Is there a way to test that cionfiguration is written properly?

Just to confirm, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the extension? What do you see if you go to the extension settings page? Do you see the device name at the top?

Ok, something very strange had happened. I do not know whether it was newest version of Vivaldi or Join plugin, but I've tried a clean install again yesterday and it worked! Still could not make it work on my older installation of Vivaldi, but since it worked with new version, I just moved all my other plugins and configuration/history to it, so now I am good.

Thanks you very much and we can now close this case.

    Thanks,
    Maxim
