As I posted here, I'd like to suggest a new application that would connect together Tasker and Torque.
For those who don't know, Torque connects to a OBD2 interface (via bluetooth or wifi) and pulls data from the car (all kinds of parameters). This data can only be pulled inside Tasker via Torque's log file, which is a cumbersome task.
So, my believe is that a small Tasker/Torque plugin to present parameters from Torque into Tasker would be a great addition to the list of AutoApps.
What is your opinion on this matter?

    Sound awesome,
I'm already thinking of great things this could help me like enable/disable car mode when engine start/stop and save parking location
Also can activate tasks in case or a crash

    I agree.
I know that Joao doesn't drive a car though, so that could be problematic.
    A bluetooth obd-2 adapter isn't expensive, however.
Another possibility is Dash which has a developer API which might be more easily hooked into for an auto-app??

Yeah, this sounds interesting definitely. Do you have any information in what kind of cars something like this will work with?

Ok, cool. I have regular access to a car, so I'll see if it works with it. :) Where have you bought your ODB2 connector BTW?

    http://torque-bhp.com/wiki/Bluetooth_Adapters#Working_Bluetooth_Adapters

See section Adapter from China/via ebay/amazon

Looks like an image of same one, just with comments about random build quality issues etc

"Some units seem to suffer poor build quality and reliability issues. Other units are perfectly fine. Make sure you purchase with a buyer who has a decent returns policy should the unit turn out to be defective. If you have connection issues, or displays randomly 'pausing' in the app then it is most likely an adapter issue."

hard to tell, but looks like the one on the torque website

Just have a quick look on Torques website or search to see if your car is compatible. Up until last year i couldn't use Torque as it didn't support MUT II protocol which was what Japanese Imports use.

I've been doing the whole torque log file to tasker scenario for awhile now and I agree that an actual plugin would be awesome.

I ordered an OBD2 device from eBay. I'll see if I can get it to work ☺

I'd love to see something like this. My digital dash project (based around Torque) already uses several AutoApps, and this would be a great addition.
If you like, you can read about my project on my blog:

João, if you want to test the waters of AutoTorque, you can already start. There are a few variables that Torque acquires from the phone and presents them, even without an ODB2 adapter: GPS location, acceleration, barometric pressure, etc

Thanks for the tip. I'd rather look into it later though. :) I have too much on my hands right now. Thanks again!

Yeah, I did actually :D Haven't done anything with it though... It's going to be a pain to debug code in my car :p

Any car after the year 1996 has an OBD port so... quite a bit. Usually OBD dongles fit a wide variety of vehicles.

Overall, I think this is an excellent idea. If you could get Tasker to notify you of speeds, temperatures, etc. that would be absolutely awesome.

    Anyone agree?

I agree. My primary (almost only) use of Tasker is for the Digital Dash project I mentioned above. I'm already using Tasker to monitor fuel levels and alert me when it gets low, but that involves a looping task that reads Torque's log file. It would be great to have a more efficient method.
