Open New Google SMS Permissions

Will the recent announcement about permissions, found at https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/answer/9047303, have any impact on the ability of this application to send or receive SMS messages?

I have read elsewhere that this app is not intending to be a default handler of SMS. That page does mention exceptions for applications that are not default handlers, but uses the word 'temporary' ambiguously. In addition, some users of Join might say that SMS is not the "Core functionality" or "main purpose of the app", at least not for them, but it certainly would be for other users.

 

Glad to know you are on top of things. I hope it will take Google less than "6-8 weeks" to respond.

I assume, regardless of the final resolution from Google, you will prominently display the outcome. Thank you.

Any update on this? I have read on reddit that you still haven't received a final answer for Tasker . Is it the same for Join?

I really hope they will approve your exemption requests for both apps... They are great apps, it would be a shame to remove the SMS functionality ...
