Open Reading SMS on phone does not clear SMS notification on Chrome

When I get an SMS on my phone (Pixel 2) the Join Chrome extension also gives me a notification, which is great! However, if I read the SMS on my phone, which dismisses/clears the notification on my phone, the SMS notification on Chrome does not get dismissed until I manually dismiss it. I use the built in Messages app, how do I fix this? This does not happen with any other kind of notification.

 

im having an issue where i hit dismiss everywhere and it doesnt dismiss anywhere other than the current device(chrome extension). also, im not getting notifications for many things like email or a number of other apps.

i just read the sticky post on why those notification might not be coming through.... i get the reasoning but i think it could be 'handled' a bit differently. like a helper tip inside the app or even inside that specific option location.
