Open When SMS is received, sometimes contact photo is shown, othertimes not?

Any idea why this is the case.
This has happened before, but most recently today. The contact photo has appeared for one contact for some months, yet today, it's reverted to some default image that comes with standards sms'.
It often reverts by itself in the future, but wondering if anything can be done about it?

Using Chrome addon/latest version

 

haven't had a contact photo for days - something has changed it seems.
tried changing photos -contacts.google.com can see it, the phone can see it, but Join cannot.

also tried reinstalling the android/chrome addon.

 

yes, some contacts have retained their photos, while on others it reverts to a generic profile colour.

 

all contacts have photos @ contacts.google.com , I have tried adding photos @ contacts.google and then syncing them to phone, which the phone instantly sees, but join doesn't. Also tried adding photos on my phone, which sync to contacts.google fine, but join won't update it.

edit: just got a call from a known contact, phone says their name etc, and Join says Unknown. Multiple callers are now showing as Unknown.
There's definitely some issues.

 

Just did that and my other phone is still showing as Unknown on Join, but my name obviously shows as the caller on the phone.
Any other suggestions?

 

weird thing is, even adding a BRAND NEW contact with a photo at the time of creating the contact,.. the photo doesn't appear.
That's odd to me.

 

how do I install previous versions of Join?
Maybe some previous versions don't have this issue

No, no pattern.
I just tried removing Join again, deleting the Gdrive folder for join, removing chrome addon.
Reinstalled it all and now when my 2nd phone rings my main phone the contact info is AUTHMSG.

I then went and unticked sms and call service in Join Settings, let it re-do that again, now when I ring it says Unknown. Obviously it should say the contacts name etc.

 

That new version now shows who is calling rather than unknown, but the photos are still messed up.
