Open duplicate and missing text messages

(1) When I send SMS messages from the Chrome app to my Android 6 phone, the messages often appear twice on the phone. Also, many of my incoming messages appear twice; not sure what the difference is between those that do and don't appear twice.

(2) Not all messages show up in the Chrome app. For example, I have an entire section of messages that exist only on the phone and have not appeared in the Chrome app. This includes messages that were sent with the Chrome app!

These two issues sometimes interact. For example, I might see:

Reply 1
Message 2
Message 2
Reply 2
Reply 2
Message 3
Reply 3
Message 4
Reply 4


on the phone, but on the Chrome app I might see:

Message 1
Reply 1
Message 2
Reply 3
Reply 4
Message 4

And finally, there's the ongoing problem of messages and entire conversations continuing to appear in the app when they've been deleted from the phone for months.
