Open Can't get SMS to work. "No SMS Devices"

So as the title says, I'm having some issues getting SMS to even try to function. On the android app, I've tried clearing the cache, reinstalling, and changing the formatting in the "Own Phone Number" field. Edit: Forgot to mention that I've also granted all permissions and toggled accesibility. None of the above worked. When I click on "Remote SMS" from the sidebar I get the following message:

No SMS Devices
You don't have any other device that supports SMS. Press OK to go back.​

On the Chrome side of things, SMS doesn't even show up as an option in the extension menu. What else can I do? This is the only feature I need, and Join seems to be the only app that's actually compatible with my crappy huawei phone and its weird ROM.

EDIT 2: I had someone send me a message, and I am getting the notification. Quick reply even works. But all of the above is still true. SMS is greyed out (windows 10 app) or not available (chrome), and I still can't access it from the android app.

I didn't find a perfect solution, but here's my workaround:
> be on your computer
> receive a text
> click to open the messaging window
> view page source with Ctrl + U
> in the resulting window, delete "view-source:" from the URL
> navigate to the edited URL and bookmark that page
> have easy to access link to sms
