AutoInput Drop down list boxes

Is there a way to pick items from drop down list box based on a variable? So, if you click on drop down field, it gives you a list of five items i.e. apple, orange, strawberry, tangerine, cherry. You have a variable set to "cherry". You want auto input to select "cherry" from the drop down list box. Is that possible? I ran a UI query on the page w/the list box and the list items came back as android:id/text1, android:id/text1, etc.. all items were shown as "text1"... thanks in advance for any help..
